THE GOLF SWING OF PRESIDENT WILLIAM J. CLINTON

Clinton's Golf Swing Highlights

What kind of golfer is President Clinton?
"I've gotten better since being President," said Mr. Clinton, apparently unaware that this was a pretty disquieting thought. "It's mostly because I've gotten to play with better golfers." When asked about the subject of handicaps. "Twelve, thirteen — something like that," answered the President. With any mulligans? The President was asked.

Mr. Clinton's eyes went steely. He took one of those pauses of his. He set his chin.

"One, now." Indicating at one time he took more.

This, of course, was a problem in trying to figure out the sitting Presidential handicap for their 1996 book "Presidential Lies: The Illustrated History of White House Golf," Shepherd Campbell and Peter Landau wrote: "The answer is clouded by the matter of mulligans, which President Clinton uses freely. . . . Clinton admits to one mulligan per round and some times more. It is said, for instance, that with friends in Little Rock the standard arrangement was for one extra tee shot and two extra fairway shots per nine holes.

Most think the President continued to shave six per 18 throughout his residency at 1600 Pennsylvania?

In defense of President Clinton: It is said he has a very good short game and from viewing his golf swing video I believe that Clinton is in the range of a 12 -16 handicap with potential to reduce lower with practice.

Think that your golf game can compete with President Clinton's? William J. Clinton

Bill Clinton is our 42nd President. He was born on August 19, 1946, in Hope, Arkansas, and served as the governor of Arkansas for twelve years before becoming President. His wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, is the First Lady of the United States. They have a daughter named Chelsea. The President has always loved to read. In fact, with the help of his grandfather, he learned how to read by the time he was three years old! When he was in elementary school, he enjoyed reading Dick and Jane; later his favorite books included Black Beauty and The Last of the Mohicans.

When he was in high school in Arkansas, Bill Clinton was chosen to represent his state in a mock government called Boys Nation. He came to Washington, D.C., with other young boys from all across the country. When the group was invited to tour the White House, young Bill was the first in line to shake President John F. Kennedy's hand. It was then that he knew he wanted a career in public service and that he wanted to eventually run for an office.

For exercise, the President jogs almost every day and plays golf whenever he can. He knows that fitness is a very important part of staying healthy. His favorite color is blue, and his favorite foods are chicken enchiladas, bananas, apples, and vegetable beef soup.

The White House has its very own movie theater, and President Clinton and his family love to watch movies. The President's favorite movie is "High Noon." He also loves listening to music and playing his saxophone.
